The short answer
Follow the maintenance schedule for your exact model, including both elapsed time and running hours. An annual appointment is not a universal substitute for that schedule. Heavy outage use, initial service requirements or other conditions can make work due before the next annual visit.
General guidance, not installation, repair, engineering or legal instructions. Confirm equipment-specific and current local requirements with the appropriate professional.
Find the schedule that belongs to your unit
Start with the model information and owner’s manual, not a neighbor’s service interval. Generac’s maintenance guidance distinguishes equipment families and directs owners to the applicable schedule. Ask your provider to identify the document being used and explain which requirements are relevant to your generator.
Turn a schedule into a usable record
Ask for a service report showing the date, recorded operating hours, work performed and the next milestone. Keep recommendations for additional work separate from completed items. If records are missing, say so when booking; the team needs to assess the available history rather than assuming the previous owner followed every interval.
Recheck after unusual use
Contact the provider after a prolonged outage or a noticeable change in operation. Share the runtime information available through the normal display or app without opening equipment. The useful question is not simply whether your yearly visit happened, but whether anything is now due based on the model and actual use.
Put it into practice
Ask your maintenance provider
- Which manual and schedule apply to my model?
- What work is due by time, hours or initial operation?
- Which items are included in this appointment?
- What should prompt a call before the next planned visit?
Does an annual agreement cover every service the generator might need?
Only if the written terms say so. Ask how additional runtime-related work, repairs, parts and return visits are handled. Generator Care’s maintenance agreement pricing and final terms are still being established; request the current scope before enrolling.
