Generac & Kohler ownership

What to have ready when requesting Generac service

The short answer

Provide the property address, exact Generac model if known, the reason for the visit and available service records. Include the controller’s message or Mobile Link notification when relevant. There is no need to open equipment or diagnose the fault yourself before contacting the team.

General guidance, not installation, repair, engineering or legal instructions. Confirm equipment-specific and current local requirements with the appropriate professional.

Identify the kind of help you need

Say whether you are arranging scheduled care, following up on a recommendation or reporting changed operation. If the generator has not supplied power as expected, describe that separately from a maintenance reminder. Explain whether utility power is currently available so the team understands whether the request concerns preparation or an active outage.

Keep equipment and app information distinct

If you use Mobile Link, record the latest update time, the displayed status and the exact notification. Separately record any controller message you can read through normal, safe owner access. Send both observations with their times; an older app status and a newer controller message may describe different moments. Use the supported authorization process for provider access and keep your password private.

Prepare for a productive visit

Gather the last service report, any outstanding recommendations and the equipment identification from records you already have. Ask what access is needed and who should be present or reachable to approve additional work. Give the team a heads-up about gates, pets or storm damage without placing private entry credentials in a public message.

Put it into practice

Your Generac service request

  • Model information from existing records and the service address.
  • Maintenance, inspection or a specific operating concern.
  • Exact message, source and time if an alert is involved.
  • Last service report, open recommendations and authorized contact.

Do all Generac standby models use the same service schedule?

No. Ask the provider to confirm the schedule for your exact equipment. Model, time, running hours and applicable conditions matter; a generic annual checklist should not replace the manufacturer’s instructions.
